Criteria for taking rations from government shops will change,

New Delhi: The Food and Public Distribution Department is going to change the criteria for those eligible for government rations.  The department has held several meetings with the states in this regard.  The framework for changing the criteria is almost ready.  The possibility is being expressed that the changed criteria will be implemented this month, on the basis of which future eligibility will be determined.




 According to the Department of Food and Public Distribution, 800 million people across the country are benefiting from the National Food Security Act.  It also includes people who are financially well-off.  With this in mind the Food and Public Distribution Department is going to change the criteria.

In this regard, Food and Public Distribution Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said that a meeting has been held with the states for the last six months to discuss the change in the criteria.  New criteria for eligibility are being formulated by incorporating the measures provided by the states.  The criteria will be finalized this month.  Only recognized individuals will benefit once the new criteria are implemented.  Invalid people cannot benefit.  This change has been made with the needy in mind.

 One Nation, One Ration Card Scheme implemented in 32 States and UT

 According to the Department of Food and Public Distribution, the Nation Nation, One Ration Card Scheme has been implemented in 32 states and UTs by December 2020.  About 69 crore beneficiaries i.e. 86 per cent of the population under NFS have joined the scheme.  On an average, about 1.5 crore people will be able to move from one place to another every month.
